Andrew Strombeck lives in Dayton, Ohio, where parts of downtown still look like New York did in the 1970s. He is the author of DIY on the Lower East Side: Books, Buildings, and Art after the 1975 Fiscal Crisis (SUNY Press 2020), as well as the co-editor, with Jean-Thomas Trembley, of Avant Gardes in Crisis (SUNY Press 2021). His essays on Hernan Diaz, Colson Whitehead, David Wojnarowicz, Gordon Matta-Clark, Kathy Acker, Rachel Kushner, Don DeLillo, the Left Behind novels, William Gibson, Richard Wright, and Ishmael Reed have appeared in PMLA, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Post45 Peer Reviewed, The Millions, Contemporary Literature, Modern Fiction Studies, Studies in American Fiction, Cultural Critique, African American Review, and other journals.
